Nestled into the high hills of Castle Rock, Colorado, this mountainous retreat sits high above, overlooking beautiful scenery and vibrant nature to encapsulate its natural surroundings. The goal of this residential landscape design was to include kid friendly outdoor recreational space that matched the architecture of the home as well as integrate cohesively with the natural environment. This landscape design allows for opportunities of entertainment and play as well as privacy and leisure.
The complex elevations posed both challenges and unique opportunities for suburban residential landscape design. Playing into the elevations and using them to enhance the natural playground worked out wonderfully.
In addition to the use of sustainable technologies and material recycling, the landscape also focuses largely on water-wise native species without sacrificing aesthetics. By considering the environmental responsibility of natural preservation and natural landscaping, this design process has fully enhanced the definition of sustainability.
The undulating forms, cascading ponds, and edible fruits add an ambiance and aesthetic very cohesive with the environment and work to create frequented habitat space for the local fauna – all of which can be viewed from various vantage points such as lounge decks, hot tubs, and raised fire pit patios.
Through innovative, environmentally conscious landscape design, this property truly elevates its natural surroundings and vice versa.
